Last month, GirlsUP sent its UN Teen Advisors to the first-ever Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. For the event, more than 100 young women from across the country, along with leaders and celebrities, came together to discuss how to improve the lives of girls in developing countries.
Our UN Teen Advisors had the privilege of visiting the White House and Capitol Hill where they advocated on behalf of pending legislation that would ban child marriage. At the leadership summit on the following day, the girls led and attended workshops on topics such as fundraising, advocacy, communications and event planning. The event also included inspirational speeches by Monique Coleman, star of High School Musical, and Sarah Hurwitz, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor to the Council on Women and Girls.
We are very proud of our GirlsUP Girls who were part of this event.
